Team D’s prototype captured exactly what the FabConnectHer STEAM Challenge stands for: creativity rooted in heritage and strengthened by teamwork.
From the opening craft session to the STEAM role-model activity, the team quickly built trust and enthusiasm. Their discussions explored traditions, patterns and shared values from each of their countries. Mentors guided them through identifying roles within the group, helping everyone find their place and voice.
Once the design phase began, their sketches reflected a bold mix of symbolism and modern aesthetics. Their goal was clear: create a prototype that visually expresses unity across cultures.
The turning point came during the visit to Newgrange and the Battle of the Boyne site. Inspired by ancient engineering and storytelling traditions, Team D returned to the workshop ready to refine their concept. They began cutting, assembling and adjusting with precision.
Their evening mentoring reflection deepened the experience. The group spoke openly about common barriers for girls in STEAM and found strong encouragement in hearing how others navigated similar paths.
By Thursday morning, the prototype took shape beautifully. The team worked methodically to finish details and prepare their story. During their pitch, they presented a polished narrative showing how their shared heritage informed every design choice. The judges were impressed by their teamwork and creative clarity.
