Team E embraced the FabConnectHer STEAM Challenge with an imaginative spirit. From day one, their conversations flowed with stories from home, traditional symbols and the inspiring achievements of women in STEAM.
After building their STEAM role-model card, they moved into the design phase with energy. Their early sketches mixed patterns, textures and meanings from Ireland, Iceland, Portugal, Spain and the Netherlands. Mentors supported them in refining these ideas, helping them shape a concept that honoured the challenge theme: blending ancient wisdom with future innovation.
Their visit to Newgrange ignited the next stage of creativity. Seeing such historic craftsmanship encouraged them to experiment with structure and form. Later that day, they began shaping their prototype using digital fabrication tools, working confidently with laser cutting and 3D printing.
Mentoring that evening opened space for honest conversations about their personal journeys in STEAM. The team connected over shared experiences, finding encouragement and motivation in each other’s stories.
By the final day, their prototype reflected the best of their collaboration. They rehearsed their pitch with confidence and presented a design filled with meaning and technical detail. The judges admired the originality of their approach.
