In September 2013 the Xtrene association was born with the aim of disseminating the use of open technologies (H/W), with its first project, Kannibal 3D, through a Crowdfunding campaign on the Goteo platform, the association obtained funding to establish a Maker classroom in the Youth Center of Almendralejo (with a 3D printer, a couple of Raspberrys and 10 Arduino kits).
Almendralejo Digital joined the project by providing resources at the end of 2014 and together + s, they launched what would become the Almendralejo MakeSpace, inaugurated in 2015. That same year, two members of Xtrene graduate from Fab Academy.
With this space already in operation, and after several collaborations, the e-Health for People association, noted for its projects in telemedicine stations based on free Software and Hardware, is part of this initiative that in 2016 approved the first Fablab in Extremadura at the Fab Foundation.
Currently the three entities collaborate in the dynamization of the Fablab, which also has a “Mobile Unit” with material and resources to bring the philosophy of the Maker movement to rural environments.
