Vozes em silêncio - Voices in Silence
- Andreia Gomes
Project Description
There are stories that were forced to remain silent.
And there are women who decided to paint them.
Paula Rego didn’t paint to please.
She painted to expose what many pretended not to see.
She painted abortion when it was illegal.
She painted the fear hidden behind closed doors.
She painted girls who grew up too fast.
She painted women trapped in roles they never chose.
In her works, bodies speak.
Expressions scream.
Silence weighs heavily.
She transformed pain into image.
She transformed oppression into narrative.
She transformed the invisible into something impossible to ignore.
Her art is not comfortable.
It is necessary.
Because as long as there are silenced stories,
we need someone to show them.
Paula Rego didn’t just paint women.
She painted resistance.
And each brushstroke is a reminder:
The body is ours.
The voice is ours.
The story too.
