FlorBela's Box

Hi! We are Francisca and Violeta and for this project, we choose a Portuguese woman from the STEAM fields, more specifically arts – literature. The woman we chose is Florbela Espanca.

She was a Portuguese poet and writer, born in 1894. She is known for her deeply emotional and passionate poetry, often exploring themes such as love, loneliness, desire, and feminine identity, and this is one of the things that motivated us to chose her. Florbela’s writing was considered bold for her time, giving voice to a woman’s inner world with honesty and intensity. Despite facing personal struggles throughout her life, her work gained recognition after her death and she is now regarded as one of Portugal’s most important literary figures.
