Fab Lab Austurland was opened in November 2014 as a collaboration between the Verkmenntaskóli Austurlands (vocational school), Nýsköpunarmiðstöð Íslands (Innovation centre of Iceland) and Austurbrú. FabLab Austurland has been closed but reopened in the fall of 2021 as a result of a contract and fundin from the Ministry of educatiion and is fully functional and staff training is ongoing.
