Team B entered the FabConnectHer STEAM Challenge with one clear curiosity: how can different cultures merge in a single creative object? Their prototype became a vibrant answer to that question.
After settling in with the hands-on Irish craft session, their first full day of work opened a flow of ideas. Building a STEAM role-model card helped spark conversations about women whose achievements have shaped technology, science and design. These ideas formed the backbone of their concept: celebrating the strength found across shared European heritage.
Once the challenge brief was introduced, Team B sketched patterns and shapes inspired by symbols from each student’s home country. Their table filled with colours, stories and questions. Mentors supported them in translating these early sparks into a direction that honoured each team member’s background.
The midweek visits brought the breakthrough moment. Standing at the ancient site of Newgrange encouraged the group to think more deeply about timeless structures and cultural continuity. That afternoon, they began building the first elements of their prototype with 3D modelling and laser cutting.
Mentoring that day added another layer of reflection. Sharing their experiences as young women in STEAM helped them understand the importance of representation and peer support.
By the final day, their prototype stood proudly on the table, ready for its finishing touches. Their pitch blended storytelling, symbolism and clear design choices. The judges valued the balance between imagination and heritage.
